About the writer
I started out by writing for a VW club magazine and grew to like it. A year or two later (back in 1977) I went after a job on a car magazine in England and got it! Just over one year after that, in October 1978, I was appointed Editor at the age of just 24. In 1988, I was approached by Bay View Books to see if I would be interested in writing a book on how to customize a VW Beetle. Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained, so I went ahead and now, five books later, I have to admit to enjoying writing. I have been editor of five magazines in England but am now full-time freelance. I launched VolksWorld magazine in 1987 and am still the Consultant Editor of that. My speciality is Volkswagen and Porsche, so I guess that's why I ended up writing so many books on the Bug!

This book covers the buildup of a dunebuggy from frame selection to final assembly in considerable detail. For the novice, it is a great help. For people more experienced, the information is probably a repeat of past experiences. There are a few details which I do not agree with in the author's choice of assembly but this is a personal opinion and does not necessarily mean that either of us are wrong. As a companion to the Idiot's Guide to VWs and Hibbards' Baja Bug book, this volume would be very useful to many a buggy builder.
